Jobilla Hooks Sold out... more to come, Thanks!
click on image for enlarged viewThese are Jobillo (edited to correct spelling) hooks. Jobilla is a nut tree and not only does it produce cashews, but the wood is just phenomenal! I think this is the most lathe friendly wood that I've worked with so far, outstripping the German Plum that is also very nice but just a little more difficult to work. So look for more Jobilla hooks in the future coming from Jimbo's Porch. The wood willingly works down to smaller sizes and seems to stay solid while the shank is formed. Ever have a wood piece turning at 2000 rpm with a shank of 3.75mm? Scairy, but Jobilla holds up well, which translates to really fine hook wood. And the bonus is that it's beautiful wood! Lots of surprises in the grain and lots of color variation.
Oh and bytheway, that little swatch you see under the hooks? I crocheted that!! Amazing eh? I think if I worked at it another few years, I might get to the point of making a fair warshcloth (up at the Crick we pronounce "wash" as "warsh").
Ok so to the hooks. Lets start at the bottom and work our way up,
As measured on a Susan Bates "knit check" gauge:
Bottom hook:An H (5mm), a little over 7 inches long.(SOLD)
Next up from the bottom is a size 7 (4.5mm) a wee bit under 7 inches (SOLD)
Third up is an F (3.75mm) at 6 3/4 inches (16.75cm)long.(SOLD)
And the top hook is a G (4mm) and is 6 7/8 inches long .(SOLD)
All four hooks have carved thumb rests.
And there you have it.
Price: $35 each

HOOKS!!

(click on image for more detail)
Whew! This new camera is amazing, but getting a picture to transfer to the computer is another thing. Must be a learning curve and I'm just starting the upswing. Anyways here are two hooks, the top one is for sale and the second one is sold, but I wanted to get pictures here of both.
The top hook is a G (4.5mm) and is made of Gabon Ebony. Beautiful wood! I like wood grain so the contrast in this hook appeals to me. Ebony, you probably are thinking, is black; its the stuff the black keys on a piano are made from. True, but not ALL ebony is completely black. This piece has black, shades of gray, and yellow/orange, and I think its much more appealing than all black, don't you?
Oh yes, length. This hook is 7 1/4 inches (18.2cm)of ultra smooth, strong wood. It doesn't have a thumb rest at this point but I'll carve one should the buyer so choose.
Price: $45 (simply email me of your intent to buy, at
jimbocrochetwhittler@yahoo.com\
Now the bottom hook has been sold but I wanted to show it because of the handle material. The handle is made from Deadmancrick Wood (ok, technically Red Fir). Ordinarily this wood is likely too soft for hook making, but since the hook is part of a Boye Interchangeable (tm) set of hooks, we can get away with using light weight but beautiful woods. I like the honey color of this wood, not to mention that it comes from my most favorite place in the world (the ranch). Also, this wood is taken from a fallen, dead tree, so except for the poly finish, it's very ecological. Not the easiest wood to turn, but the results are well worth the effort.
Although this hook is sold, I will take orders for more of these sets in this wood or another of the buyer's choice. Price: $65.00 (SOLD).
More hooks in the works, and I'm still taking orders.

Flamewood Hook Showoff
(click on the image to see detail of the grain in this beauty!)
Just had to show off the Flamewood in this hook, and use the new camera outside. This hook is already sold by way of an email order. I seem to be doing more hooks that way lately, from folks who want something special. Just for the record, though, the hook is made of a really beautiful hardwood called Flamewood for it's dark and red/orange colors that blend in flame-like flares. Beautiful. Trouble is, I think this might be my last piece of Flamewood. Ah but there are many other beautiful crochet hook woods, and most particularly, those nearest to my heart...DeadmanCrickwood from up on the ranch.
I do have more hooks in progress and will have some up for sale soon.
Thanks for dropping by!

Boye interchangeable thead Hook SOLD to the nice and AMAZINGLY talented lady from England
Here's the first image in my blog, taken with my new camera! It's a dandy; a Canon TS3i and it'll do the dishes if I could just figure out which buttons to push. But it takes beautiful pictures!!
And the subject? Well I do need to start selling hooks or folks will think I've fallen off the lathe.
What you see here is a Boye style interchangeable thread set, with interchangeable thread hooks ranging in size from 1 - 14. The hook handle is made from a ultra beautiful, ultra light weight Maple burl. Now with the increased image quality I'm getting with this new camera, you can get a better idea of the depth of the wood grain character. There's no thumb rest yet on the hook, but I'll gladly make one for the buyer.
Price: $65
