JUST GOT WORD THAT THE BIG ATAXIA CONFERENCE IN LAS VEGAS WAS A GREAT SUCCESS AN THAT ALL THE ITEMS IN THE SILENT AUCTION SOLD (INCLUDING THE BOWL IN THE PICTURE.. sorry Lani.. but you sure did well getting the bids up there, and thank you for that!)

Anyways the stuff that went to the silent auction to support FA research included:

A really nice stocking cap donated by our own lovely and talented Erin (sold)
The little maple bowl (sold)
Scarves and shawls by the lovely and talented LeAnn (sold)
A basket of soup ingredients by the lovely and talented Karol (sold)
Wine baskets by Dick and Debbie (sold)
A little spalted birch bowl (sold)
A larger Aspen bowl (sold)
Three birch rustic tea light candle holders (sold)
A Yew wood toothpick holder with toothpicks (no i didn't make the toothpicks) (sold)
A wine barrel stave tea light candle holder (sold)
Six chophooks (sold)

And those were but a few of the items taken to Vegas. I'm waiting to hear the total amounts raised, but its gotta be a good number.
Thanks again and again to all who donated to the event!!

The photo is of a little 5"x3" maple bowl that i'm sending with Jessica's family for a silent auction in Las Vegas. The auction is intended to raise $$ for Friedreich's Ataxia research, and I'm hoping this beautiful piece of Maple will help the cause. But to set the minimum bid there and to let folks who might like to own such a fantastically figured piece, I'll start the bids here and send the bowl down there with the high bid here as the minimum bid there. If nobody bids higher at the convention, then the high bidder here will get the bowl.
The bowl is made from the crotch wood of a maple tree pruning. I was just floored by the beauty of the grain.
So bids... I'll take bids till March 18th, then the bowl will go to Vegas with instructions that it can only be sold if the bid down there is at least $10 higher than the bid here. I'll announce the new owner after the Vegas conference. OK??

So you can send bids to me at
jimbocrochetwhittler@yahoo.com

Bids:
Ladywillow bids $30!
Lani brings it to $40!! Take THAT, FA!

AND THE HOOKS.... WE'VE A WINNER AND TWO FOR???

(click on the image for an up close and personal view)

WE JUST HIT 50 ENTRANTS IN THE TRAVELING HOOK III AND SCRUMBLE-ALONG FOR FA!!
I DID THE DRAWING, AND THE WINNER IS CHRISTINA(CrisKad). Christina is a very lovely and talented crochetier, AND designer! Check her blog at http://www.craftychristina.blogspot.com/.

Now don't go away! There will be another drawing when we get another 50 entrants. The odds won't be quite so good next time but hay its lots better than the lottery, eh?

And because I've not yet decided on which hook to give away, we'll let Christina decide. And... she picked the REDHEART hook!! That leaves the other two.. What to do? Auction? Give them away too??

Thanks again all for participating! And oh yeah.. I'm still selling chophooks! Please scroll down and check them out. ALL proceeds go to Friedreich's Ataxia research. You get a hook, you help find a cure! What's to loose?

Remember.... keep watching!

The top hook is made from Wenge (I pronounce it Wen-gee) Wenge is a really pretty wood that's really hard to work with. It likes to throw off little splinters. But it finishes VERY well and it crochets sooo nice. It has a thumb rest and is about 6 1/2 inches long.

The middle hook is a hunnert percent hand carved Jimbo hook. Its made from Deadman Crick Fir. The honey color of this wood just warms you to look at it... and the hook:? Oh the grip is just... well you'll just have to hold it to understand. Its in the M size range and is about 7 3/4 inches long.

The bottom hook is made from Redheart. It has the universal grip and has just knock out gorgeous color and wood grain. This hook closely resembles the Traveling hook III if you compare to the picture in the blog entry below. Its a I sizewise and is about 7 1/2 inches long.

Thanks for stopping by!
Jimbo

Well they are all gorgeous! I think the middle one should go to the TH3 and I don't know what the scrumble along is :-(

I'm sure the others will auction nicely.

What size is the top one, it looks like an I too?

Beautiful hooks as always Jimbo!

I'll defer to you as to what you want to give to TH vs the scrumble-along:)

Congrats CrisKad, I know that we can get another 50, we have friends and family right? The scrumble along has only started and so has the Traveling hook III. During the coming months others will see the post and want to join, they always do :-)
