International Crochet Day (ICD) is fast approaching and for my part in promoting the ART of Crochet, I am having a contest to win this beautiful thread hook set. The set includes 14 thread hooks that are interchangeable on the handle, so the winner will have, in effect, 14 hook sizes to choose from. The set is made by "Boye" and is their fabled "interCHANGEABLE HEAD" brand. The handle is genuine Jimbo and is made from a fallen branch of a beautiful Tamarack tree that is still growing on my Ranch, close to the real Jimbo Front Porch. Tamarack is also known as Western Larch and is my favorite for what it does for us. The tree is actually a deciduous (hardwood) tree because it's needles turn bright yellow in the cold air of Fall. The wood from Tamarack is well used for lumber and firewood. However, it's branches often simply fall to return to the earth, or are piled and burned. It seems a shame that such beautiful wood become food for the insects or be turned to ashes. This piece has been rescued, to become this year's prize to the winner of the annual Jimbo International Crochet Day contest.

I conceived International Crochet Day as a way to promote crochet around the world, and have been promoting the Holiday for several years now..... and it has been growing! I LOVE to crochet and would adore this prize. Every time I leave the house (no joke - every time) I make sure I have something to crochet in my purse or in a tote bag. And every day at lunch time I go down to the cafeteria at work and smile to myself while I work on whichever project I brought. I learned to crochet from my grandmother when I was 7-8 years old and still crochet to this day at the age of 60 in her honor. I will honor International Crochet Day by continuing to learn entrelac crochet and making a gorgeous blanket for my grandson. Having a neck injury and bad arthritic hands, I'm always searching for comfortable hooks that won't aggravate my injury and allow me to continue doing the craft I love. Your hooks would certainly help in this matter. I'm feeling lucky!

I've been working on my first thread crochet project, a child's shirt with bamboo thread. I've discovered that this is the best way to make children's clothes, the bamboo thread is so soft! I first learned to crochet the summer I was twelve. I immediately tried any and everything I could figure out at the time but was limited by the few stitches I knew and unaware of others that might teach me. Several decades later I am teaching my children the art, and expanding my skills left and right. Online tutorials are such a gift, and last summer was the first time I had crocheted with thread. After making several sets of stunning dishcloths and a market bag that I will love forever, I rememeber the fine lacework that my grandmother [who I was named after] once did and have been playing with the idea of creating fine lace myself. I remember those fine metal hooks and have several of my own now. But I would dearly love to have a full set and frankly would love the wood handle, particularly knowing who had crafted it. I've been so excited this weekend, stocking up with yarns and shopping for patterns, that I'm considering starting up a local club for those interested in getting together to learn and work and share crochet. My children and I could create a great foundational group.

Aprendi a fazer crochê na minha infância onde minha mãe me dava uma agulha e os restos dos fios para fazer roupa de boneca. Hoje ele é minha terapia. What an opportunity. I love thread crochet, and your hooks are GOOD.
I have fewer opportunities now, but when I lived in NYC and traveled the subways, I used to pack an extra hook and a little ball of acrylic yarn, so that if anyone asked, I could teach them right there. I think it was only about 6 people who took me up on it, but I was ready.
